[ RG-004 ]* 1984-FM Egypt ₤100 Cleopatra PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. The Queen of Egypt appears with her signature Nekhbet vulture headdress in profile looking west towards Rome presenting a regal image against expansive open multiply-reflective fields in a design superbly rendered by The Franklin Mint. The classic F-over-M mintmark appears on the reverse above the letter “R” in "A.R.E" (Arab Republic of Egypt). Reigning during the time before Christ in the age of Julius Caesar and Mark Anthony, Cleopatra is the subject of this second-year type issue with a much lower mintage of just 2,121 pieces, compared to the 16,000 for Nefertiti in the previous inaugural year. This ½-ounce golden gem perfectly captures the stoic image of Cleopatra that we all share and who seemed quite adept at playing "The Game of Thrones". The wings of her vulture headpiece drape down either side protecting the pharaoh. On the reverse the elegant design features the date and denomination in stylized Latin and Arabic text. She became the archetype for antiquity for the femme fatale. This Top-Pop (1/0) gem has flawless mirrors with pooled reflectivity that dazzles the eye and perfectly frosted devices and was graded as perfect by both NGC and PCGS. This is one of 8 non-USA coins I acquired for this set pre-graded in a PCGS holder. * Number 4 in Ron Guth’s book “100 Greatest Women on Coins” shows the smaller 1993 ₤50 which is based on this coin from the previous decade.

2020-W 400th Anniversary of the Mayflower Gold ₤25 British PR70DCAM { PCGS-4 }. This British Mint beauty was issued in conjunction with the US equivalent remembering the 400th anniversary of the historic voyage of the Mayflower to the New World. This slot pays tribute to the British Queen who reigned from 1952 to 2022, the longest reigning monarch of the British Empire, and second longest ruling royal of all time (after Louis XIV who assumed the throne as a young boy). During her leadership span of 70 years and 214 days she met every US president from Truman to Biden, except LBJ (13 of 14 presidents). Blessed with a photographic memory she was on top of affairs of state, although she had no official authority, she met regularly with military, social and financial leaders. Her leadership in Europe and the world paved the way for other stateswomen to break the glass ceiling and take the ultimate leadership roles including Margaret Thatcher (slot 77), Golda Meir (Slot 65) and Angela Merkle. QE2 leaves behind a considerable numismatic heritage and this golden gem pays tribute to the unique bond the USA shares with the UK. This gem offers terrific gold luster and eye appeal. This is also the coin that brought me to this set as I looked for a registry set for it to call home.

2019 United Kingdom ₤5 200th Anniversary Queen Victoria Piedfort Silver PR70DCAM { PCGS-4 }. On the obverse is QE2, the only monarch to surpass the length of Queen Victoria’s reign. In the UK Piedfort often signifies a double-width, double weight issue with special dies and highly polished planchet.

2019-S USA Sacagawea $1 (Native American Series) “Indians in Space” PR70DCAM { PCGS-4 }. This is another “Three-fer” sans QE2 featuring “Sacagawea” #14, “Native Woman” #63 and “Young Woman Writing” #90 illustrated in Mary Golda Ross of the Cherokee Nation in the reverse foreground writing formulas on a piece of paper with a panorama of her career coming to life behind her. But this coin is in the slot for Sacagawea, a Native America who joined Lewis and Clark on their historic exploration of this country beyond the Mississippi. Her help along the way dealing with various tribes proved invaluable, and they did successfully reach the Pacific proving that a land-crossing of this continent was possible, even if it was not easy. Nice mirrors and heavy device frosting enhance eye appeal for this modern gem. Be sure to check out the flip-side, where Mary Golda Ross is shown as a young woman who acquired degrees in mathematics, mastering every available course on astronomy and dreaming of interplanetary space travel, a passion she kept to herself at first in order as a woman to be taken seriously. She became an engineer and helped develop the Agena spacecraft for Gemini and Apollo (seen behind her to the left). She lived long enough to see John Herrington of the Chickasaw Nation walking in space (seen on upper right edge) at the International Space station made possible by the foundation she laid. Above her are the stars she dreamed of as a girl. My preference was to use this for the "Young Woman Writing" slot; but PCGS ruled that it could only be put in the Sacagawea slot, having already removed Sacagawea coins from a number of sets including them in the "Native Woman" slot. This gem displays reflective mirrors and this series introduced the world to an obscure Native American who was invaluable during the early development of this country. Hoping that perhaps this new design would stir interest in using the dollar coin, it fared about the same as the Susie B and morphed from a standard eagle reverse to an annual glimpse of Native American contributions to the history of the USA. Mary Golda Ross made a long lifetime of contributions to this country that may have largely gone unnoticed at the time. It's fitting to honor her life here.

[RG-029]* 2001 Gibraltar Silver Crown The Brontë Sisters PR69DCAM { PCGS-5 }. Charlotte, Emily and Anne are honored on this Victorian Age tribute for a literate sibling trio that gave us such classics as “Jane Eyre”, “Wuthering Heights” and “The Tenant of Windfell Hall”. The Brontë Sisters originally published their poems and novels under male pseudonyms: Currer, Ellis (C for Charolotte), and Acton Bell (A for Anne) in order to find success in a male-dominated publishing world of the nineteenth century. Normally found as a copper-nickel crown or part of a First-Day-Cover coin-stamp pair, this silver gem is the rarer proof edition. This gem appears to be perfect, except for a tiny discoloration in the field next to the "1" (of 1 Crown). Nice mirrors and frosted devices are all part of this sharp looking coin. * Number 29 in Ron Guth's book "100 Greatest Women on Coins".

2017 Cameroon 500 Franc CFA PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. Madame Marie Curie was the first person to win two Nobel Prizes (one for chemistry and one for physics). This coin shows her in front of a plutonium atom (which she and her husband discovered). The electrons are colored in the pale lime green glow of plutonium. It represents their contribution to chemistry; and also its radiation their work in physics. Her husband insisted that her contributions be recognized in the rather chauvinistic world of science at the start of the twentieth century. The reverse is a sun-burst with cartwheeling luster. The coin is one of 500 minted. This is one of 8 non-USA coins I acquired for this set pre-graded in a PCGS holder.

[RG-032]* 1937 USA Commemorative Half Dollar Roanoke MS67+ { PCGS-5 }. Virginia Dare was the first English child born in the New World at Roanoke. What happened to her and the other settlers is a matter of speculation; but she is remembered on this commemorative in the arms of her mother. She is only known at all because John White, Virginia's grandfather and the governor of the colony, returned to England in 1587 to seek fresh supplies. When he returned years later the colonists were gone. Gorgeous cartwheel luster swims in the fields breathing life into the figures including the popular and rule-breaking Sir Walter Raleigh. But for this set, it's the reverse that we're interested in where a mother holds her baby girl and two sailing ships appear in the fields on either side in the background. The baby's head and eyes are nicely defined and prominent. All devices are particularly well struck on this gem remembering the Sesquarcentennial of the Colonization of Roanoke Island. * Number 32 in Ron Guth's book "100 Greatest Women in Coins".

1994-S Marshall Islands $50 Mythological Mother Earth PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. Part of a 12-piece tribute to “Wonders of the Solar System”, this perfect silver round proof gem features an allegorical Mother Earth seated beside the planet. The Zodiac sign for Earth makes it look like she is seated in a wheelchair while holding two toddlers. In Greek mythology her name is Gaia. Although this is the silver cousin to the modern $10 brass coin Ron discussed in his book, he showed no pictures of either coin due to the difficulty of finding them outside of a complete set at that time. Unlike other coins allowed for this set that meet the “Mother Earth” name, this coin’s name includes the full moniker and actually shows her as a woman! Again, the point of this set. The silver version was not mentioned in Ron’s book; but comes with a mintage of 25,000, and one ounce of pure silver.

MMXVII Austria 20 Euro Maria Theresia PR70 { PCGS-5 }. This popular Austria-Hungarian monarch is elegantly (and perfectly) rendered on this non-circulating bullion silver gem in the spirit of the ever-popular Taler while paying tribute to "Courage and Determination"... that would be Fortitude and commemorating the 300th anniversary of her birth. Just 1,000 pieces were struck for this South Pacific island. CM is for the Czech Mint (Česká mincovna), Jablonec nad Nisou, Czech Republic (1993-date). The mint mark appears following the date. Going clockwise from there are the shields of Sir Lancelot, Sir Perceval, Sir Degore, Sir Bedivere, Sir Kay, Sir Galahad, Sir Bohor, Sir Gauvan, Sir Tristan, Sir Brunor and Sir Hector. There are many much larger silver coins featuring Guinevere; but this gem offers open fields and an elegant design that uses the highly frosted devices to yield great eye appeal and leave a lasting impression. Finally, this is another QE2 "two-fer" that could also be used in her majesty's spot.

2006 Romania 500 Lei Patriarchal Cathedral PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. This commemorative produced with one Troy ounce of pure gold reproduces the icon featuring the Holy Emperor Constantine I and Empress Helena of Constantinople (his mother) housed in the Patriarchal Cathedral. She became Catholic shortly after his ascension to the throne, and later had a profound effect on Christianity in the region. A nice surprise when this came back perfect with a microscopic mintage of just 250 pieces. Although not pictured in his book, Ron Guth did mention this Romanian coin, among the few modern coins that fit in this slot. Even with a variety of gold and silver options for this slot, it remains one of the most difficult coins to locate, and you can expect a successful search to take about one-year (circa 2020).

Julia Grant was the wife of U.S. Grant, the eighteenth president of the USA and the Union general that brought the Civil War to a close. She lived during tumultuous times and endeavored to bring decorum and civility back to the White House. She strongly supported Women's Rights. She is said to have been devastated when her husband chose not to run for a third term, having thoroughly enjoyed her time in the White House. I'm guessing so, considering the years that would have preceded that time in Washington. * Number 46 in Ron Guth's book "100 Greatest Women in Coins".

The original was a bit bawdier than this more modest image. Colored devices help make the pin-up come to life. This is one of 3,000 minted and was graded perfect by NGC and crossed to PCGS. * Number 52 in Ron Guth’s book “100 Greatest Women on Coins.” Yellow Rose appeared on the nose of a B-25 near the end of WWII.
[RG-53]* 2023 USA $1 Silver Peace Dollar PR70DCAM { PCGS-4 }. In December 1921, the new Peace Dollar was approved by Treasury Secretary Andrew Mellon, replacing the Morgan Dollar and marking peace between the U.S. and Germany following WWI. More than 1 million of the coins had been struck by the end of the year. The new silver dollar was designed by renowned Italian American Sculptor Anthony de Francisci (1887 - 1964) and minted until 1935. This encore rendition comes 100 years after its introduction and with a pure silver planchette improving on the 90% silver original. Anthony used his wife as the model for this art deco-like piece. Perfectly struck, this gem brings to life the full beauty of this coin not possible during its earlier 15-year life span. Following the mint-state only coins of 2021, this popular design continued as a premier bullion coin struck in both mint and proof states. A number of countries also featured Teresa de Francisci on their coins remembering this milestone in history. * Number 53 in Ron Guth’s book “100 Greatest Women on Coins.”

[ RG-054 ]* 2008 Andorra 10 Dinar Pierre Renoir "Two Girls at the Piano" PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. This sterling silver ingot-like flawless gem is from the "Painters of the World" Masterpieces series honoring one of the premiere impressionists. On the reverse he appears bust-like in silver in front of a colorized picture fragment framed in the shape of a palette of "Portrait of the Actress Jeanne Samary." It is the obverse though that is the interest of this collection where two girls appear in silver-relief against the colorized background "Young Girls at the Piano". With a mintage of 20,000, this is the more common of the two coins that meet the requirements for this slot, the other being the $1 Niue coin issued for the 100th anniversary of Renoir's death. This coin has some nicely reflective fields that frame the subjects on both sides. * Number 54 in Ron Guth’s book “100 Greatest Women on Coins.”

2013 Antilles 5 Gulden Abolition of Slavery PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. To pay tribute to the Sesquicentennial of the Abolition of Slavery, this flawless silver gem depicts the breaking of shackles binding a male and female slave. In this year Willem-Alexander ascended to become King of the Netherlands when his mother Queen Beatrix (Number 60 on Ron Guth’s list) abdicated. Just 750 silver commemorative proofs were minted. The design captures the Tula Monument in Willemstad Curacao.

[RG-058*] 1999 Palau $5 Deutsch Kamerun PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. This South Pacific coin remembers an era of German influence in the region and features Germania on the reverse. This and its sister coin for German Togo are the only two modern coins featuring Germania as of the first printing of Ron Guth’s book. There is also a Taler from the nineteenth century that is fairly common. Numerous Fantasy Issues (Exonumia) are available now and continue being made, often with other national personas (e.g. Italia). This can be tough to find with a mintage of 1,000, although some continue to surface each year. Notice the coat of arms Germania holds featuring the Teutonic eagle and the elephant head. The obverse features a profile portrait of Wilhelm I. The coin pays tribute to German colonial influence in Africa that spanned from the mid-nineteenth century to WWI. This is one of 8 non-USA coins I acquired for this set pre-graded in a PCGS holder. * RG-058 Mentioned in Ron Guth's book "100 Greatest Women on Coins", although not pictured.

1994 Canada $200 Anne of Green Gables PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. A girl couched in a gazebo is reading a book about Anne (with an “E”) Shirley. The young freckled red-headed girl with her travelling bag comes to life on the pages of the girl’s open book. This nearly half-ounce gold proof coin is one of a total mintage of 10,665. Terrific mirrors and frosted devices make this an attractive alternative to the large painted quarter which is the other choice for this slot. Interesting that while most people have heard of the such beloved fictional characters as Heidi or Anne of Green Gables but the authors maybe not so much; but it is the fictional character remembered here (not Lucy Maud Montgomery) yet Johann Spyri was honored with her own Top-100 spot for "Heidi"! Of course, it was Canada that chose to honor Anne on its coins; while Switzerland commemorated the author.

[RG-060]* 2003 Netherlands 5 Euro Vincent van Gogh PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. This silver gem features an impressionistic rendering of Queen Beatrix on one side and a Vincent van Gogh self-portrait on the flip side. Their portraits are rendered with repetitious text to form a pixelated image against impressive perfectly black mirrors to create striking works of art. "KONINGIN DER NEDERLANDEN" is used to create the Queen's image; fittingly it translates Queen of the Netherlands. "VINCENT VAN GOGH" is used to create the artist's image. There were 100,000 proof-like strikes. This perfectly rendered piece is one of my favorites; but, then, I've always been partial of impressionist art. It's one of those things that causes one to do a double-take and agree, "Man, that's cool!" * Number 60 in Ron Guth’s book “100 Greatest Women on Coins.”

2003-B Switzerland 2 Franc PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. This gorgeous unchanging Swiss design that has remained unchanged for over 100 years features their national persona armed with a spear and Swiss shield. This small alpine country is a collection of cantons including French, Italian and German speaking locals that embrace a fourth language Romansch as their official Latinized lingo. The name "Helvetica" is shortened on coinage from the Latin "Confœderatio Helvetica". Proof sets are produced annually featuring the eight circulating coins plus the commemorative 5 Franc coin for that year. Enjoy breaking one of these sets open, they are made to stay together and yield high quality specimens years later, but you need to work for it! This is the largest of three denominations showing the Swiss persona, three smaller denominations show their version of "Liberty".

1976-FM Antilles 25 Gulden USA Bicentennial Juliana PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. Queen Juliana is featured in profile in a well-struck flawless gem commemorating the 200th birthday of the USA. The reverse shows the warship Andrew Doria, the Anglicized name for the Italian admiral Andrea Doria, and the first US warship to receive a salute by a foreign power by the Dutch following its exploits in the Dutch West Indies during The War of Independence. The Queen presents a stoic highly frosted cameo presence framed perfectly by jet-black mirrors. But it is the large cameo of Queen Juliana in perfect cameo-relief engulfed by deep multiply reflective mirrors that captures the eye. This coin was minted by The Franklin Mint as denoted by the "F-on-M" mintmark at the 6 o'clock position on the reverse, next to the rim. Not surprisingly, this coin reflects the superb mirror/frosting contrast and quality for this mint at the time.

1984-CHI Papua-New Guinea 5 Kuna, Decade of Women PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. A native woman is selectively picking coffee beans by hand. On the reverse the Papua New Guinea coat of arms shows a bird of paradise over a traditional spear and kundu drum. This is one of a series of coins from around the world as a UN initiative to honor women during this decade. Sadly, US commemoratives were just getting off the ground and didn't come up with a coin until the 1994 Women in the Military. The mint mark "CHI" in a circle (found at 3 o'clock following "DECADE FOR WOMEN") is for a mint at Chiasso, located in Ticino, Switzerland. The mintage is 1,050.

This coin is one of nine perfect rectangular ingot-like coins depicting Renaissance masterpieces in the Mary Mother of Mercy series. "Virgin and Child " was painted by Hans Memling between 1475 and 1480 and appears with roses at right of this ingot-like coin. This "two-fer" meets the requirements of the Mary, Mother of Jesus slot, but here appears as a Mother Breastfeeding.

She is included among the series honoring "First Spouses" because Chester Arthur's wife died before he took office and Alice was born during the term served by him. She was instrumental in fighting to bring women the vote on two continents. I'd say she earned a place on the list of top-100 women on coins with a nod-nod, wink-wink inclusion in the First Spouse series. Tough to find a pristine proof specimen with Top-Pop grading; although many were available online with unsightly oxidation in the fields. After much looking, this was an NGC crossover. * Number 68 in Ron Guth's book "100 Greatest Women in Coins".

Commemorating the 800th anniversary of Saint Elizabeth, this one-ounce silver coin was minted in Budapest (BP) with 4,000 pieces each in mint-state and proof. This coin shows Saint Elizabeth as the monarch on the obverse; and again feeding the poor on the reverse making it a "Two-fer" of sorts with the saint's image on each side. This perfect mint-state rendering offers shimmering frosted cartwheel fields giving Saint Elizabeth an ethereal nimbus. * Number 71 in Ron Guth’s book “100 Greatest Women on Coins.”

[RG-072]* nd(2004) Argentina 1 Peso Evita Peron PR69DCAM { PCGS-5 }. Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of Evita Peron, this silver proof shows her profile with cheering crowds praising Evita with the sunrise in the background. Mintage was 5,000 for proof for this flat design. Typical for these silver proofs, die-polishing lines can be found in the fields, particularly on the reverse of this specimen which tends to preclude perfection from PCGS. The 2 Peso copper-nickel coin is easier to find, but nice silver specimens are still available; but you might need to get them from Argentina. The coin shows "2002" for the anniversary of her death, but the coin was actually minted in 2004; but if you're looking to find one of these gems you better stick with "2002". Most take that for the date of issue. * Number 72 in Ron Guth’s book “100 Greatest Women on Coins.”

2009 Fiji $2 Wedding Photo PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. The Romanov Family was the last Russian Royal Family headed by Czar Nicholas II. This coin shows his wedding portrait with his wife Alexandra Feodorovna. As the empress consort, she bore him five children. They were killed after his regime fell in 1917. This colorized coin is augmented by deeply mirrored fields. Nice presentation with the reverse proof frosting to frame their portrait; and don't miss the perfect silhouette of QE2 on the front. Under 20,000 coins were minted of this portrait of the Last Russian Royal Family which is much more budget-friendly than the one suggested by Guth in his book from the early nineteenth century.

2015 Russia 25 Rubles Michelangelo Creative Works PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. This sterling silver flawless gem combines the frosted devices of Michelangelo's Pieta to yield a sculpture-like rendition of his masterpiece with colored panels in the background of frescos from the Sistine Chapel of "The Delphic Sybil" and "Prophet Jeremiah". Between them is Saint Peters Cathedral in the Vatican where Michelangelo's Pieta resides. To the left is a panel showing a fragment of the portrait of Michelangelo by D. da Volterra applied as an applique that has the artist come to life, much as he brought statues to life, peering out from the flat flawless surface of deeply reflective mirrors. Minted in Saint Petersburg, this is one of 1,000 is struck as part of the "Treasury of World Culture" series, and is a 5-ounce behemoth with a diameter of 60mm. Michelangelo's Pieta is one of the enduring images of Christianity showing Jesus' limp body following his crucifixion draped over his mother after being taken down from the cross. The two frescos present a pair that foretold the coming of Christ. And three days later those and other prophesies were fulfilled. The Delphic Sybil spoke of a savior who would be shamed by non-believers with a crown of thorns. And Jeremiah spoke of the Messiah establishing a new everlasting covenant, like a lamb led to slaughter he would be a descendant of David escaping death as an infant, and through him our sins would be forgiven. As the woman in Michelangelo's masterpiece, Mary is the only real-life person who is the subject of two coins in this series (also appearing in the first coin in this set as Mary, Mother of Jesus); joining Athena from Greek mythology as the other appearing twice in this set. Of course, QE2 has multiple appearances on the flipside; plus one of her own. On the flip side of this coin find the date and double-headed eagle, devices are heavily frosted with nice spacious fields with impressive multiply reflective mirrors. Large flawless coins such as this are rare making this beauty even more impressive.

2023 Cook Islands $5 Arethusa SP70 { PCGS-5 }. In Greek mythology, Arethusa was a nymph who fled from her home in Arcadia beneath the sea and came up as a freshwater fountain on the island of Ortygi in Syracuse, Sicily. Her image is common among ancient coins, showing her often surrounded by dolphins. She has a connection to both Demeter and Persephone in the top 100 coins, being the one who revealed to Demeter that her lost daughter Persephone was now queen of Hades. This antiqued silver high-relief gem appears as many of those ancient coins with only Arethusa’s profile looking left and joined by two dolphins around the rim. This coin’s simple design is made more beautiful by its decluttered nature. It has a satin finish that gives it that timeless appeal. "CI" appears, signifying Coin Investment Trust, a Liechtenstein based mint using "Smartminting©" which allows coins to be produced in high relief without additional metal and effectively increasing the surface area of the coin. The coin is made to look like its counterparts from antiquity with a hammered look of an uneven rim. There are just 1,500 of these silver beauties and once they're snatched up they won't be likely to reappear anytime soon.

2003-PM Sierra Leone $10 XXVIII Olympic Games PR70DCAM { PCGS }. This nearly one ounce proof silver commemorates the Summer Olympics held in Athens just after the turn of the twenty-first century. Nike holds out a laurel wreath for the winner. Athena overlooks the games in her form of the little owl of Athens (Athene noctua). The letters ΑΘΕ are short for ΑΘΗΝΑΙΩΝ or “of the Athenians” and the owl typically represents or accompanies Athena as her allegorical symbol of wisdom (in this case the tactics of sport). With her temple on the Acropolis, Athena is the patron goddess of Athens, as is appropriate for these games. The mint mark for the Pobjoy Mint (PM) appears to the left of the date. This coin is currently considered "optional" for this set; although there are several different coins from different countries that satisfy this slot. Terrific deep black mirrors offset these two ancient goddesses.

1998 Austria Gold 1,000 Schilling Empress Elisabeth of Austria PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. This half-ounce top-pop gold gem has a similar design to the previous year’s Marie Antoinette coin. She was a beautiful monarch reigning 44 years as empress over Austria and Hungary. The reverse shows the last moment of her life in Geneva (Genf) before her assassination as she walked with her lady in waiting along the promenade to board the ferry on Lake Geneva. An Italian anarchist approached and stabbed her. Franz Joseph later remarked on his wife's death "That a man could be found to attack such a woman, whose whole life was spent in doing good and who never injured any person, is to me incomprehensible".

[RG-087]* 1996 Gibraltar Crown Ingrid Bergman MS67 { PCGS-5 }. From a series paying tribute to a century of cinema, this premium gem remembers the classic 1942 movie “Casablanca” with the memorable image of Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman on a rainy tarmac in Lisbon the previous December, and though they will always have Paris, Sam never did play it again. 2020 Saint Helena ₤1 Una and the Lion Gold Plated PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. One ounce of pure silver is at the heart of this gem portraying a popular theme drawn from Edmund Spenser’s poem "Faerie Queene" which tells the tale of Princess Una after St. George had slayed the dragon and rescued her. During the course of their travels, Una met a lion who was so mesmerized by her beauty he became her companion and protector. The model for the original nineteenth century art was the 19-year old Queen Victoria. Una and the Lion are gold-plated to further distinguish the main obverse devices from the multiply reflective field. An initially low authorized mintage was cut in half to just 250.

[RG-089]* 1970-BP Hungary 50 Forint Strobl Monument MS68 { PCGS-5 }. The Liberation Monument in Budapest was designed and built by Strobyl to commemorate the 25th anniversary for liberation from the Nazis. The original design was for a woman holding a baby; but Soviet 'suggestion' was to swap the baby out for the frond. This 64% silver gem has heavy rainbow toning on both sides. This commemorative mintage was 20,000 for circulation strikes. Minted in Budapest (BP). This capital city combined its name from two smaller towns on either side of the Danube, Buda and Pest. In this same spirit, this statue provides a unifying message that seems to be lost in our divisive world. This coin was taken from a mint set. * Number 89 in Ron Guth's book "100 Greatest Women in Coins".

2019 Palau $5 Guardian Angel { FDOI } MS70 { PCGS-4 }. From its silver charm series, this one-ounce guardian angel presents as a miniature statue. 2000-FM British Virgin Islands $20 Anne Bonny PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. One of the more modest and less bawdy renderings of Anne Bonny elegantly captured in silver as you might expect from the Franklin Mint (see the stylized F-on-top-of-M mintmark on the reverse just to the right of the name banner). Anne was an Irish pirate operating in the Caribbean who had married a sometimes-pirate turned pirate informer. She left her husband joining Calico Jack Rackham and pillaged the seas for 5 years before capture. She was spared the gallows because she was pregnant. Little of her is known after that, dying a few years later. We know her from her romanticized and bawdy exploits recorded in Captain Charles Johnson’s “A General History of the Pyrates.” Nearly 300 years later she appears on coins from Cuba, British Virgin Islands and Burkina Faso based on illustrations in this book.
