2015 Russia 25 Rubles Michelangelo Creative Works PR70DCAM { PCGS-5 }. This sterling silver flawless gem combines the frosted devices of Michelangelo's Pieta to yield a sculpture-like rendition of his masterpiece with colored panels in the background of frescos from the Sistine Chapel of "The Delphic Sybil" and "Prophet Jeremiah". Between them is Saint Peters Cathedral in the Vatican where Michelangelo's Pieta resides. To the left is a panel showing a fragment of the portrait of Michelangelo by D. da Volterra applied as an applique that has the artist come to life, much as he brought statues to life, peering out from the flat flawless surface of deeply reflective mirrors. Minted in Saint Petersburg, this is one of 1,000 is struck as part of the "Treasury of World Culture" series, and is a 5-ounce behemoth with a diameter of 60mm. Michelangelo's Pieta is one of the enduring images of Christianity showing Jesus' limp body following his crucifixion draped over his mother after being taken down from the cross.
