It’s time, once again, to honor the best of the best in the PCGS Set Registry, a vibrant online collecting platform where more than 37,000-plus active members have built over 150,000 sets. Our Registry now boasts over 2.3 million coins worth over $2.3 billion! We continue to be the collector’s choice and leader in the industry with our commitment to celebrating all levels of collectors from around the world.

Coin collectors on the PCGS Set Registry range the gamut from those building circulation-grade common coins to rare coins that have sold for eight figures. PCGS is the founder of the Set Registry and continues to lead the market after more than 20 years. When we brought the PCGS Set Registry online in 2001, there were barely more than 300 sets registered, and in the following year, we honored 15 sets with awards. This year, we are celebrating more than 490 Gold and Platinum awards (up from 450 last year), as well as thousands of Best of Registry awards for set leaders

We have built the most comprehensive Set Registry awards in the hobby, and we continue to innovate with new categories and ways to celebrate and encourage collecting. For example, we are proud to have expanded our Everyman’s Collection category with the all-new Everyman’s Mint State category that opens a new channel of collecting as the highest grade possible in these competitive sets is 64. This has been our fastest-growing category and the awards this season recognize those efforts with several Best New Sets winners.

In addition to the many U.S. sets we offer, we also continue to recognize the efforts of World Coin collectors, where we have focused on and cultivated advances in Europe, Africa, Canada, and Australia amongst other areas.

It is truly an exciting time to be a part of the coin collecting industry. You have chosen to utilize the free-to-use Set Registry to manage your inventory, track updated pricing, communicate with a large community of collectors, and compete for the best in each category.

Congratulations to all the 2022 PCGS Set Registry winners, and good luck to all who are building sets on the PCGS Set Registry. Your dedication to collecting is an inspiration to our community overall and our team of passionate collectors is available to help you along your journey. We appreciate you and want to share your accomplishments with the rest of the industry. Thank you.

2022 GOLD LEVEL SETS

Gold is awarded to honor sets that are the best in their category and have been selected by our judging committee to be recognized for outstanding set building. The completeness and quality of each of these sets deserves recognition. Many of these sets have won in the past and some are new recipients of the gold award. Each of the following sets are truly impressive and worthy of the prestige of the gold award.

TOP CLASSIC SETS 1794-1964

High Desert - Complete U.S. Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1792-1964)
Type sets are unbeatable for their diversity, and this particular set is simply unbeaten, period! At the top of its class, High Desert went all out with this sensational set is 100% complete and boasts a weighted GPA of 65.41.

D.L. Hansen Collection - Complete U.S. Type Set (1792-1964)
If there's one thing we've learned over the past few years on the PCGS Set Registry, it's that whatever D.L. Hansen touches turns to gold -- literally in this case. A stunning 65.988 rating underscores the prestige of this incredible set -- can anyone top this? We'll see down the pike -- unless D.L. Hansen undoubtedly finds a way to work his magic and make what is already a top-flight set even better still!

High Desert - Copper Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1793-1964)
The U.S. copper catalog contains some of the most popular coins in the American numismatic canon, and this set represents those series and more. Bear in mind that the phenomenal 64.88 set rating includes copper coins from the late 1700s and early 1800s!

D. L. Hansen Collection - Silver Type Set (1792-1964)
This silver type set is one of a kind, and it's complete, too. It ranges the run of U.S. silver coins from the Three Cent Silver up through the Peace Dollar and really captures the breadth of the nation's classic silver coinage. A set rating of 66.713 serves as the exclamation point on this outstanding survey of U.S. silver.

High Desert - Gold Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1795-1933)
Gold sets of any size can be challenging because of the inherent high cost of buying gold coins. However, gold sets of a larger scale are far more difficult, and one of this magnitude is absolutely insurmountable for most collectors. Yet High Desert, no stranger to completing some of the most dazzling sets around, managed a doozy by completing this incredible assemblage, and with a 64.85 weighted GPA, to boot. This set is downright awesome.

High Desert - Gold Type Set (1795-1933)
This is one phenomenal set, with 38 high-end coins representing some of the most challenging gold coins around. High Desert completed a similarly exhastive 36-piece gold set of equal caliber -- how do they do it? Magnificent work!

The Black Cat Collection - Gold Type Set 12 Piece, Circulation Strikes (1839-1933) - CAC
An upper-crust take on the popular 12-piece gold type set, this one ranks superior with its top-level specimens representing a dozen of the most widely used pre-1933 U.S. gold coins around. And get a load of those MS68+ gold dollars! Wicked cool...

D.L. Hansen Collection - First Year of Issue Type Set (1793-present)
A first-year type set encompasses a specimen minted during the first year of each major U.S. series, ranging from Liberty Cap Half Cent on up through Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. Need we say, this is a D.L. Hansen set, so you know it's going to be good!

High Desert - 20th Century Gold Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1900-1933)
The pre-1933 U.S. gold coinage of the 20th century has long been considered among the most beautiful of all gold coins, boasting iconic designs by the likes of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, Bela Lyon Pratt, and others. The set rating of 68.053 (yes, you read that correctly) is virtually untouchable.

High Desert - Complete U.S. Coin Design Set (1792-present)
A design set is a very special kind of type assemblage because it entails all of the various design types that appear on U.S. coins from the earliest days of the U.S. Mint up through today. Early coins are easily the toughest to acquire -- both in terms of cost and also in the sense of tracking down suitable specimens -- making this set all the harder still. High Desert did a commendable job on this endeavor.

Jim_McGuigan - Half Cent Type Set (1793-1857)
A half cent type set is no easy objective, especially when doing it the way this collector did -- with among the very best of the best examples in existence. This set is truly gorgeous, with exceptional and original color all around. And the grades? Well, all you need to know is that the weighted GPA is an astounding 66.476.

High Desert - Large Cent Type Set, Circulation Strikes (1793-1857)
This eight-piece large cent type set includes some exceptional pieces, with the iconic Flowing Hair Chain Cent -- the first coin struck by the U.S. Mint for mass circulation -- among them. Oh, did we mention the weighted GPA of a whopping 66.82? Wowzer!

The Mark Hagen Collection - Dollar Type Set (1794-present)
There are many kinds of takes on the silver dollar type set -- some more basic and others more complex. This set is comphrensive, including the oft-challenging Flowing Hair Dollar. Completing this set in any grade is a feat of numismatic tenacity, but doing so with a weighted GPA of 66.64, well...

D.L. Hansen Collection - U.S. Coins Complete Basic Set, Circulation Strikes (1792-present)
This nearly complete set of U.S coins extraordinary -- no surprise given its Hansen provenance. It encompasses nearly 4,000 coins covering the entire gamut of the regular-issue American catalog. Where do you start with something like this? Just a mind-blowing set -- and it carries a GPA (with bonuses) of 64.385!

The Black Collection - U.S. Twenty Cents Complete Set, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1875-1878)
The 20 Cent series may have been among the nation's shortest series, but it yielded enough rarities to make a set in any grade a truly challenging numismatic task. Yet, it's been done. This 100% complete set dons a set rating of 66.225, too. Simply amazing!

D.L. Hansen Collection - U.S. $20 Gold Complete Set with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1850-1932)
Beloved double eagles are the thing of fancy for so many collectors, and D.L. Hansen was so keen on them he built the entire set -- no easy task! This nearly (99.01%) complete double eagle set encompasses the entire regular-issue run of circulation strikes and boasts an incredible set rating of 62.370.

Jim_McGuigan - Half Cents with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1793-1857)
(Note that this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection.) This nearly (97.83%) complete set of half cents run the entire span of the series, from 1793 through 1857, and includes both circulation and proofs, putting it in the very upper echelons of all early Federal copper sets. Counting top bonuses, the set checks in with a GPA of 61.418 -- solid Mint State territory!

High Desert - Half Cents with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1793-1857)
(Note that this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection.) High Desert finds themselves atop the rankings once again with this 100% complete set of all circulation strike half cents, an assemblage that includes major varieties. A set rating of 60.811 is outstanding, especially considering the many early dates residing within this cabinet.

High Desert - Large Cents with Major Varieties (With the four Ultra Rarities), Circulation Strikes (1793-1814)
This multiyear showstopper is one of High Desert's pride and joys -- a 100% complete set of early (1793 to 1814) large cents. Boasting several ultra-rarities and a GPA with top bonuses of 55.10, there's simply nothing else like it out there.

High Desert - Large Cents with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1839-1857)
(Note this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection.) These late-date large cents are harder to find in top grades than many collectors may realize. Yet, High Desert now pulls in their third consecutive gold with this effort, a 100% complete collection of Braided Hair Large Cents with a set rating of 67.27. By the by, more than 42% of these large cents are designated as Red!

D. L. Hansen Collection - Large Cents with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1839-1857)
The large cent series was one of the first U.S. coin niches that grabbed collector attention in the mid-19th century. Today, these classic coins are considerably scarce in the better grades, dissauding many from even attempting to complete a set. But D.L. Hansen made a run for it and did it with numismatic swagger. This virtually complete set of circulation-issue and proof large cents is incredible, with a GPA (with top bonuses) of 58.374. It's hard to imagine the kind of time and trasure such a set commands...

Golden State Collection - Large Cents Die Variety Set by Sheldon, Circulation Strikes (1793)
Owning even one 1793 Large Cent in any condition is a numismatic achievement, but owning 18 that represent a dizzying array of Sheldon varieties? That's just something else entirely. This 100% complete set has a set rating of 19.962, which is supreme considering that the vast majority of 1793 Large Cents are corroded, holed, or mostly grade in the very lowest numerial tiers. All fans of early American coppers need to take a gander at this set.

drtom's - Large Cents Die Variety Set by Newcomb, Circulation Strikes (1816-1839)
For a third year in a row, this excellent collection of middle-year large cents takes the cake. And, this set is a monster, too, with 244 pieces and 100% completion. It has a set rating of 55.21, making it virtually untouchable

The Falcon Collection - Indian Cents Complete Variety Set, Proof (1859-1909)
(Note that this award also includes 2 sub-sets in this collection) A second-year goldie, this set showcases all proof Indian Cents including varieties. There are many top-pops and single-finests here, and with a set rating of 69.377 this ones a show-stopper nearly two GPA with top bonuses points ahead of its nearest competitor. That's MILES with a set like this!

D.L. Hansen Collection - Lincoln Cents Classic Set, Circulation Strikes (1909-1964)
Does anything really beat the classic Lincoln Cent set? Perhaps not, though D.L. Hansen found a way to amp up this numismatic mainstay -- with a 100% complete set boasting a rating of 69.784! This set has it all -- and hearkens to the classic period of Lincoln Wheat Cents. All the biggies are here, including the 1909-S VDB, 1914-D, and 1922 No D Strong Reverse, with several of the coins in this set charting as single-finest knowns!

Stewart Blay - Lincoln Cents Basic Set, Proof (1909-Present)
Building a set of proof Lincoln Cents isn't particularly easy, especially considering the difficulty in even finding the early matte proofs from 1909 through 1916. Locating stellar examples of those early pieces is challenging enough, but add to it building a set of pristine Lincoln Proofs over the course of their long run as does this set and one's talking about a Herculean undertaking.

D.L. Hansen Collection -Lincoln Cents with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1909-1958)
(Note that this award includes 1 sub-set in this collection) D.L. Hansen does it again, and this time with one of the most popular and arguably defining Lincoln Cent sets, which is the 1909-1958 Lincoln Wheat Cents with varieties -- led by the "biggie," the 1922 No D Strong Reverse. There's a slew of top-pops in here along with many single-finest knowns, accounting for an overall set score of 69.800 with bonuses!

Jeff Ehreth - Lincoln Cents with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1959-Present)
For a fifth year in a row, this set takes gold. It's not hard to see why, either. It's simply set of Lincoln Cents ranging from 1959 through today. These are the coins we see in circulation so often yet never could we imagine pulling gorgeous specimens like these out of our purses and pockets. This set just gleams with a rating of 68.835 -- truly magnificent!

Legal Two Cents - Shield Two Cents Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes (1864-1872)
This set of circulation-strike Two Cent coins is amazing. Boasting all 37 required coins, it's a masterpiece. Its set rating of 65.39 is underscored further by the fact that it's the only 100% complete set among the top five sets in its category. Wow!

TDP (tompet38) - Three Cent Nickels with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1865-1889)
(Note that this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection) An exceptional assembly of Three Cent Nickels, this set is 100% complete and has a set rating of 68.632. It encompasses circulation strikes and proofs, many of which register a numerical grade of "68."

D. L. Hansen Collection - Three Cent Silvers with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1851-1872)
(Note that this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection) This set starts off the bat with an absolutely stunning 1851 and follows suit for the rest of the series with a simply outstanding run of Three Cent Silvers, two of which are the single-finest known!

The JDG Trust Collection - Buffalo Nickels with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1913-1938)
This Buffalo Nickel set is now in its fourth year with a gold ranking, and for good reason. It's the best of the best. Sure, its set rating of 67.400 allows the set to speak for itself, but take a look at the coins. Some are simply out of this world -- the 1913 Type 1, 1921, 1926-D... The color is amazing, but look at those dates, too -- all the rare ones are here, including the varieties. Be sure to view this set and savor the beauty of each coin.

The JDG Trust Collection - Buffalo Nickels Basic Short Set, Circulation Strikes (1934-1938)
The Buffalo Nickel short set is a popular avenue for collectors hoping to avoid the high-priced rarities of the earlier dates. But the collector spared no expense here. Each coin is simply amazing, with the vast majority grading at the top of its class and one serving as the single-finest known for its issue.

D.L. Hansen Collection - Early Half Dimes with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1792-1837)
This early half dime set is a real whopper of a collection, including not only a complete run of the "traditional" issues from the set but also the 1792 Half Disme, an early Federal piece that has been increasingly regarded as part of the main half dime canon. And, of course, being a D.L. Hansen set, no corners were cut in bringing this run to completion, with the inclusion of several top-pops and/or single-finest knowns. With a set rating of 62.528, this assemblage deservedly claims the top spot.

Link Early American Silver - Capped Bust Dimes with Major Varieties, Circulation Strikes (1809-1837)
Claiming gold for four out of the last five years is this stellar set, which is 100% complete and has a set rating of 64.85. These Capped Bust Dimes are just incredible -- strike, color, originality. These are all real "it" coins!

MERC MADNESS - Mercury Dimes FB Complete Variety Set, Circulation Strikes (1916-1945)
(Note that this award includes 4 sub-sets in this collection) This first-year gold set has really earned its stripes! Tis is a complete variety set that is 100% complete and has a set rating of 69.546 -- no stunning fact given the nature of the coins in this assemblage, housing more than 80 top-pops and 29 single-finest knowns! This set is on FIRE!

The Jason Feldman Liberty Seated Dime Collection - Liberty Seated Dimes with Major Varieties and 1873-CC No Arrows, Circulation Strikes (1837-1891)
(Note that this award also includes 1 sub-set in this collection) More than 120 coins comprise this massive set of Liberty Seated Dimes built by Jason Feldman. Pride of ownership shows with this set that contains not one, not two, not even three, but four single-finest-known examples and more than a dozen other pieces that share top-pop honors among an exclusive few specimens. This set boasts a 63.339 GPA with bonuses and shows no signs of slowing down as Feldman nears the 100% completion status on this stunning cabinet.

D. L. Hansen Collection - Barber Dimes with Major Varieties and 1894-S, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1892-1916)
(Note that this award also includes 2 sub-sets in this collection) Virtually every other coin in this D.L. Hansen set is a top-pop or finest known, and by golly, it includes the 1894-S Barber Dime -- the exceedingly rare treasure that saw just 24 minted and yields but a handful of known specimens today. A runaway winner, this set carries with it a 67.591 rating. Impressive!

MERC MADNESS - Barber Dimes with Major Varieties and 1894-S, Circulation Strikes and Proof (1892-1916)
Impressive!

Hansin Collection - Twenty Cents with 76-CC, Circulation Strikes (1875-1876)
The 20-Cent coin has earned its due, and this set pays it and then some. With a set rating of 66.38, it's hard to imagine topping this one -- and the next-nearest set is more than half a point back, too.

Three Sisters Collection - Draped Bust Quarters Die Variety Set by A.W. Browning, Circulation Strikes (1796-1807)
The Draped Bust Quarter is the earliest iteration of this workhorse denomination, and this set is awesome. At 100% completion, it contains 21 coins, each of which is a rarity in its own right. These coins are difficult -- there's no two ways about it.
