- 1721-H French Colonies Sou, or 9 Deniers. La Rochelle Mint. W-11830. VF-25. 95.8 grains. Beautiful glossy light brown with mostly smooth surfaces. Some natural planchet pitting is present in northeast quadrant of obverse and around central reverse device. Sharp and well centered, complete legends on reverse. Some dark buildup is noted around the crossed Ls. Reverse cracked at MINI and in another arc below crossed Ls, bulge indicates another area of die failure from EN of BENEDICTUM towards center. Craige called this 10-J and indicated that its provenance was "JJF lot." In terms of both eye appeal and sharpness, this coin is far finer than what is usually available. Provenance: From the Ted L.
