- A famed date in this series, struck only in Proof format with a mintage of a mere 510 pieces, making it a KEY in the Shield nickel series. Over the years, the mintage has been debated: PCGS CoinFacts cites 510, the Red Book 900, Gloria Peters and Cynthia Mohon cite "875+" in their Complete Guide to Shield and Liberty Head Nickels (1995). Intense deep mirrors powerfully explode from all over and are the ultimate in clarity, cleanliness, and of course reflection. The surfaces are totally untoned and have a bold chrome like silver brilliance. Every detail is sharply struck and coated with frost that makes it look 3D. The contrast is stunning and the eye appeal is really bold! As expected of a coin of this lofty grade, there are no issues of any kind to be seen with the naked eye and the quality stands up to intense scrutiny. Anywhere between 510 and 900 Proofs were struck. PCGS 11, NGC 10, CAC 5. The last PR67 CAM CAC to sell realized $15,000 in the 2020 FUN auction. The current PCGS Price Guide value and CAC CPG value ($11,500 and $11,200) do not seem to reflect that level. There is a single PR67+ CAM graded higher at PCGS and the PCGS value for that coins is $25,500. We expect strong bidding for this truly beautiful Condition Census example of this important issue. Good luck. Cert. Number 45307767 PCGS # 83831
