- Beautifully Toned Superb Gem 1916 Barber Quarter 1916 Barber Quarter. MS-67 (PCGS). This lovely example is toned in blended rose-apricot, olive-gold, powder blue, salmon pink and antique gold, the most vivid shades at the upper reverse border. Luster is full and frosty, the surfaces are as nice as would be expected for the assigned grade. A razor sharp strike adds to the appeal of this impressive Superb Gem. The final Philadelphia Mint issue in the circulation strike Barber quarter series, the 1916 was saved in significant quantities at the time of delivery with the result that Mint State coins are more plentiful in today's market than the mintage of 1,788,000 pieces might imply. Few grade finer than MS-65, and those in MS-66 are scarce while Superb Gems are of the utmost rarity and desirability.
