Tied for FINEST of this important KEY DATE! This is a very impressive SUPERB GEM and it has all the character and charm that you would expect a coin of this lofty grade and exquisite eye appeal would have. Intense nickel-silver luster radiates boldly on both sides. The surfaces show a sweeping, rolling cartwheel brilliance that accents the AMAZING rainbow toning at the rims. Sharply struck from a shattered obverse die as seen on several examples in this lofty grade, there are die cracks at the date; from the truncation of the neck through star 5, from the rim at star 5 to coronet, and a few very thin ones connecting the stars on the right side. The details are nicely impressed, despite the die state. The bold and brilliant luster amplifies the intensity of the rainbow peripheral toning, particularly on the reverse, which is quite colorful and truly a delight. There are one or two extremely minor traces of contact which are mentioned only for full disclosure; they have minimal impact on the outstanding eye appeal and quality of this SUPERB GEM. PCGS 8, NGC 2. NONE ARE FINER at either service. The most recent example sold pre-Covid, selling for $26,400 back in October 2019. Since then the market for POP TOP and KEY DATES has been very strong. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $38,500. This beautiful SUPERB GEM belongs in the FINEST of sets. Good luck. Cert.
