1843-C Liberty Quarter Eagle. Small Date. AU-53 (NGC). One of the lower mintage issues of the period, the Small Date version boasts a tiny number of 2,988 struck for the year before the Large Date coins were struck. Excellent surfaces that withstand scrutiny and Liberty's face and neck show minimal handling and no deep scratches or scuffs. On the reverse the eagle's feathers have minor rubbing on the high points from limited circulation. Early die state as there is no crack to the bust tip, but the usual die file marks from the coiner are present by the last two stars.
