1857-C Liberty Half Eagle. Winter Variety 1 (25-J), the only known dies. AU-58 (NGC). Deep yellow gold with honey highlights and bold mint frost in the protected areas. The strike is bold overall with slight wear patterns softening the design in places, but not overly so. No serious marks mar the viewer's enjoyment of this satiny piece. From the only die pairing known for the date. One of 31,360 examples of the date produced, a mid-range mintage figure among Charlotte half eagles. All told, an amply pleasing specimen of the grade and date combination.
