- A softly frosted and essentially brilliant example with surfaces that are smoother than one might expect at the assigned grade level. Characteristic softness of strike precludes a Select Mint State rating, but there is emerging detail in the centers, most notably on the obverse at Liberty's left hand. A leading strike and condition rarity in the Walking Liberty half dollar series, the 1919-D can be difficult to locate even in EF and AU. In Mint State this is the third rarest issue of its type, trailing only the 1919-S and the low mintage 1921-S. Even the 1921-D is a bit easier to obtain in Mint State than the 1919-D, despite a much lower mintage of 208,000 vs. 1,165,000 coins. A significant offering for the advanced Walking Liberty half dollar collector.
