Handsome honey-rose surfaces retain overall bold definition and hints of frosty mint luster. Wispy handling marks are commensurate with the grade, none of which are worthy of individual attention. Nicely composed and visually appealing for a CC-Mint double eagle that saw appreciable circulation.<p>The 1876-CC double eagle has a mintage of 138,441 pieces and numerous examples were sent overseas in banking transactions. Writing in his excellent reference <em>The Confident Carson City Coin Collector</em> (2020), Rusty Goe estimates that 3,200 to 4,000 examples exist throughout the numismatic grading scale. Most of these are worn to one degree or another, as CC-Mint gold issues tended to see regional circulation before being exported in later years. Many were included in repatriations of United States gold coins from foreign bank hoards.<p>Regardless of exactly how many examples are extant, the 1876-CC is one of the more readily obtainable Carson City Mint double eagles, and it is consequently popular with mintmarked type collectors as well as series specialists. The offered coin with CAC approval at the collector-friendly grade of EF-45 will surely tempt many bidders.
