THE PERFECTION COLLECTION OF CAPPED BUST QUARTERS
Arguably the FINEST KNOWN 1834 B-1. Both standard references show a PR64 at the top of the listings, the finest Mint State pieces listed are MS64. This MS64+ CAC approved example outranks all of them. The details on both sides of this near-GEM are razor sharp in definition on both sides. A bold underlying luster highlights a wonderful pastel lilac-teal, lavender-gray, and olive-gold toning that blankets both sides; a ring of sunset-orange frames the reverse. This is an incredible looking coin strike from a die state with a delicate die crack from the rim under the 8 to the rim by star 13 and a reverse die crack.
PCGS 17, NGC 20, CAC 4. There are two in MS64+ at PCGS, with just seven graded higher. The last PCGS MS64 CAC sold for $8,519 in our January 2019 Regency Auction; the other MS64+ is not CAC approved, and sold for $9,400 in April 2019, a much weaker market. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $10,000. It needs to be noted that the Gardner PCGS MS65 CAC sold for $25,850 in October 2014 and the Pogue MS66 sold for nearly $100,000 in May 2015. With those two higher grade pieces likely off the market for the foreseeable future, this will likely be the FINEST 1835 quarter available for some time. Bid accordingly.
