- A world class 78-CC Trade dollar, an impressive, HIGH GRADE and HIGH END borderline-GEM example that belongs in the FINEST of Trade Dollar collections. The surfaces are outstanding in every way, offering superb satiny smoothness across both the obverse and reverse. They are really clean, even using a strong glass, you will not find any serious imperfections of any kind. The warm, underlying mint luster catches the light and brings out the wonderful and totally original colors. A thick band of navy opens into deep champagne centers. There are no spots or discolorations. Miss Liberty and the details are sharply struck and way above average. We assure you, this is not your typical 1878-CC Trade Dollar. The overall eye appeal is very pleasing! Only 97,000 Trade Dollars were struck at Carson City during the final year that the denomination was struck for their intended purpose, trade in the Far East. Today, PCGS CoinFacts estimates 50 survive in all Mint State grades, and they quote long time coin dealer Jack Beymer, who says "I have handled more 1794 dollars than I have 1878-CC Trade Dollars." That screams the rarity of this important piece. PCGS 8, NGC 5, CAC 4. Prior to this coin coming on the market in our July 2017 Regency Auction, selling for $73,438, an example sold in the 2012 ANA auction for $69,000 and there was one in March 2010 for $80,500! Today, the PCGS Price Guide value is $80,000 and the CAC CPG value is $84,700. Only two are graded finer, and the only one to sell in the last 13 years was a PCGS MS65 CAC which sold for $192,000. This beauty is worthy of a very strong bid and placement in a world class set. Good luck! Cert. Number 84025157 PCGS # 7047.00
