- FROM THE M & S PETTY COLLECTION A VERY HIGH END 71-CC dollar! Only 1,376 were struck, and Rusty Goe estimates that only 105-135 are thought to survive in all grades. High end AU58 coins are VERY RARE indeed, and Mint State coins are excessively rare. The present coin is very fresh to the market and we have been unable to locate its prior appearance. Clearly an early strike as the fields are semi-Prooflike and reflectively brilliant. When you rotate this coin in a light, the flashy luster brings the smoky russet, tan-gold, amber-rose, and soft lilac-gray toning to life. The colors are rich, but not dark and do not obscure the underlying radiant brilliance. The devices are sharply impressed and the ever so slight trace of wear is imperceptible to the naked eye. With the aid of a powerful loupe, we can find a hint of friction in the fields and some unobtrusive tiny contact marks. This is a VERY CLASSY and really cool early Carson City dollar, easily in the CONDITION CENSUS and one of the FINEST around! PCGS 6, NGC 7. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $75,000; but with no comparable example selling in at least a decade, who knows. The last PCGS AU58 sold in July 2008 for $97,750 and this coin is similar in toning, but in our opinion, more attractive. This is a real prize for the Seated Dollar or Carson City specialist and who knows when the next one will appear in auction! We know another PCGS AU58 is currently being offered for $100,000. Good luck. Cert. Number 45114642 PCGS # 6967
