- 1843 Braided Hair Cent. N-5. Rarity-1. Noyes Die State A/A. Mature Head, Large Letters. MS-62 BN (NGC). Somewhat glossy deep golden-brown surfaces reveal nearly innumerable tiny marks under low magnification, though the naked-eye appeal is strong for the grade. In 1843 Gobrecht's redesigned Mature Head style replaced his Petite Head style of 1839-1843; the head of Liberty on the Mature Head style is more upright, more stocky in appearance, and less delicate than the Petite Head of Liberty style.
