This lightly circulated piece retains plenty of sharp striking detail and ample mint luster, the latter in a softly frosted to semi-reflective finish. Predominantly brilliant, wisps of iridescent rose-russet and cobalt blue toning visit the peripheries and provide further eye appeal.<p>This variety was struck before the 1834 B-3 and B-5, with which its shares its obverse die; the reverse die is unknown in any other pairing. The 1834 Browning-1 is a Rarity-1 variety, the second most common for the issue, and is particularly desirable for type purposes. The AU example from the Tompkins Reference Collection offered here represents an early die state, the obverse cracked only across the top of Liberty's cap.<p><strong>Steve M. Tompkins Commentary:</strong> Another old friend of more than 20 years, and conservatively graded in my opinion. I purchased many great coins at the Washington & Oregon PNNA coin shows when I lived in the Northwest for nearly a decade during the early 2000s.
