- An awe-inspiring condition rarity to represent this high mintage San Francisco Mint quarter issue from the World War II era. The surfaces are drenched in full satin to softly frosted luster that is so smooth that the coin approaches numismatic perfection. Striking detail is no less impressive, the detail razor sharp to full throughout. Equally as impressive as the technical quality is this coin's phenomenal eye appeal. The obverse exhibits a broad crescent of reddish-russet peripheral iridescence, while the reverse is more lightly and universally toned in iridescent champagne-apricot. The only other MS-68 certified by PCGS for the 1943-S set the auction record for this issue when it realized $23,000 in our (Bowers and Merena's) April 2008 sale of the Marquette-Yakima Registry Set of Washington Quarters; it last sold through auction in June 2019. The present specimen is making its auction debut and will surely command a similarly strong price from an advanced Set Registry collector.
