- 1865-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. Small S. MS-61 (NGC). S.S. Republic Label. A frosty example of this once-rare issue that has become more available due to the discovery of several shipwreck hoards including that of the S.S. Republic. The excitement surrounding all of these shipwrecks has created an exciting sub-culture of collectors who specifically seek such coins. Today in 2023, all are widely dispersed and finding a nice example can take some patience. The present example is well struck with peach-gold color and faint accents of rose.
