- 1877-S Trade Dollar. MS-65 (NGC). Delicate golden iridescence shimmers across both sides of this captivating Gem. The fields are modestly reflective, contrasting markedly with the more frosty design elements throughout. Uncommonly smooth throughout with eye appeal to spare. With 9,519,000 pieces produced, the 1877-S has the highest mintage in the brief trade dollar series of 1873 to 1883. Although most examples were shipped to the Orient, as intended, enough coins remained stateside or were later repatriated that this issue is readily obtainable in both circulated and lower Mint State grades. However, Gems remain rare in today's market, especially relative to the demand from today's quality conscious type collectors. PCGS# 7046. NGC ID: 253E.
