ITALY. Ligurian Republic. 8 Lire, 1798. NGC MS-62. KM-266.1; Dav-1371. From the short lived French client-state established by Napoleon the previous year, and consisting primarily of what had been Genoa. Typical French motifs representing Napoleon's special brand of freedom seen on much of the coinage from the era. The more special attribute being the state of preservation, which is nothing short of breathtaking for the issue.
