- BOLIVIA. Silver Medallic 1/2 Melgarejo, 1867. Potosi Mint. PCGS AU-53. Burnett-109. Obverse: Bearded bust of Melgarejo left; Reverse: Cerro de Potosi inside circle. This example exhibits softly-struck features and a muted, uniform, light silver-gray toning on both the obverse and reverse. Struck to commemorate the visit of the Bolivian president to Potosi in December 1867. He would return three years later to crush a rebellion against the government - though to little avail as his government would be overthrown in January 1871. Estimate: $100 - $150.
