- 1857-S Liberty Head Double Eagle. MS-64 (NGC). This highly lustrous example is further adorned with vivid patina in dominant rose-gold. Warmer golden-orange highlights decorate the rims and frame surfaces that are expectably smooth for the assigned grade. Fully struck. Although not indicated as such on the insert, this lovely Gem Mint State double eagle is almost certainly from the Central Americatreasure, the primary source of high grade Mint State specimens for this issue. In any event, it is a gorgeous, conditionally scarce 1857-S that would do equally well in a high quality type set or Liberty Head double eagle collection. PCGS# 8922. NGC ID: 2696.
