- Bert Davies Collection. VAM-3, an easy call since all known circulation-strike 1894s were taken off a single pair of dies, with the reverse lightly doubled. Here is a skillfully and accurately graded choice example that boasts delightful satiny luster diffused by a gossamer layer of silver-white patina. As usual, the obverse lacks fully struck central details but the breast feathers on the reverse are actually fairly well delineated. Famous as the second lowest mintage Morgan dollar, and the lowest for Philadelphia, discounting 1895.
