One of the FINEST graded 1865 3CS known. Not only are its technical merits all there, but from an eye appeal standpoint, this coin is off the charts! First starting with the booming mirrors that really shine in a light. The devices show a good amount of frost, just shy of what is needed for a Cameo designation. The toning is in shades of fiery gold and carmine with bold electric purple and violet shades mixed in for a stunning visual effect. Only 625 proofs were struck. PCGS 0, NGC 7. Only a single NGC PR68 is finer. This coin last sold nearly a decade ago, realizing $6,325 in September 2008. More recently one sold in our December 2016 Regency Auction for $4,700 and one with a "*" designation realized $4,935 in the 2017 FUN auction.
