- 1881 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. WB-102. Type II Reverse. MS-65+ (PCGS). CAC. This gorgeous premium Gem exhibits powder blue and reddish-gold peripheral toning around golden-tinged centers. Highly lustrous with subtle reflective tendencies in the fields, especially on the reverse, a sharply executed strike is also worthy of praise. Only 10,000 Philadelphia Mint coins intended for general circulation were forthcoming for the year 1881 in the half dollar category -- the final year of branch mint coinage for the denomination was in 1878, and only the Philadelphia Mint struck half dollars from 1879 through the end of the Liberty Seated series in 1891.
