- 1831 Capped Bust Half Dime. LM-2. Rarity-3. MS-66 (PCGS). Smooth, satiny surfaces are untoned apart from blushes of lovely reddish-russet iridescence that drift across the obverse. This is a sharply struck coin, and also an expertly preserved one, and it is sure to see spirited bidding at auction. While LM-2 is only a moderately scarce variety of the 1831 issue in an absolute sense, this is only the second Mint State example that we have offered in the last decade. Indeed, the Long-McCloskey reference on this series reports, "High grade examples are still difficult to obtain."
