1802 S-232 R1. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown.Lustrous tan and medium brown blending to light chocolate brown on the highpoints of the devices. Mint frost covers all but the highest points of the devices and this cent has excellent eye appeal. The notable marks are a tiny spot of dark toning in the field before the mouth, a couple faint contact marks on the cheek, and a few small puffs of darker chocolate brown toning on the upper part of the reverse. MDS, Breen state IV, with a small rim cud involving three dentils under the 18 and several thin die cracks on the reverse. There is fine doubling on the neck and stronger doubling on all four digits of the date (from die bounce or shift, not a doubled die). A very shallow low spot covers most of the neck and cheek, all caused by debris on the die. Graded MS60 net AU55 and tied for finest known honors in the Noyes census, his photo #30905. Bland says MS60 and tied for CC#2. Our grade is MS60.The attribution and Doug Bird Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 2; none finer.(PCGS # 36345) Value $15,000 - UP
