- Enchanting and Exceptionally Engraved Elizabethan Sovereign
GREAT BRITAIN. Sovereign (30 Shillings), ND (1592-95). London Mint; mm: tun. Elizabeth I. PCGS AU-55.
S-2529; Fr-209; N-2003. Sixth issue. Weight: 15.37 gms. Obverse: Elizabeth, crowned and veiled, seated facing on ornate throne, holding lis-tipped scepter and orb; portcullis below; all within tressure of arcs; Reverse: Square-topped coat-of-arms within double rose, with lis and palm fronds alternating around outer rose; all within tressure of arcs. One of the more popular and desirable gold issues of this famous queen, the present specimen yields an elegant and well engraved design, with even the monarch's facial details evident. Given its broad and thin nature, the fact that it has survived so wholesomely and problem-free to this day is rather remarkable. As such, an example that will wholly delight the advanced collectors, and one which will undoubtedly serve as a keystone to any stellar British hammered or world gold cabinet in general.
Estimate: $30,000 - $50,000.
