- 1872 Nickel Three-Cent Piece. Proof-66 Deep Cameo (PCGS). The satiny devices exhibit considerable contrast against the deeply reflective fields on both sides. Toned in cool platinum-white shades and very flashy in-hand. 950 Proofs were struck in 1872, though only about 250 are thoughts to remain at the Gem level. This population is further diminished when production quality and Cameo contrast is considered. At Proof-66 Deep Cameo, this example ranks among the finest known and only a single coin has been graded finer by PCGS. Provenance: From the Naples Bay Collection.
