SOUTH AFRICA. Pond, 1900. ICG MS-62. Fr-2; KM-10.2; Hern-Z53. Restrike. Allegedly struck without authorization with dies taken from the mint in Pretoria. Seldom encountered, but considered necessary for the completion of the Pond series. A fabulous example that is arguably better than the assigned grade. Rich lemon yellow gold and without the spotting sometimes seen on other restrikes. A very tough coin at this level, and one sure to see spirited bidding at auction. Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500.
