- Not an overly scarce variety, but challenging to find in high grade and there are no examples known that come anywhere close to Mint State. This one is very nice at the Choice VF level, the obverse dressed in warm rose-brown patina, the reverse a bit lighter in golden-brown. There is evidence of a light, ancient cleaning here, but no marks of consequence, and the in hand appearance is smooth. Closer scrutiny reveals a few minor flan flaws in the center of the reverse and within the rings from 4 to 6 o'clock, less so on the obverse at right, but these are as made and do not distract. The best our online archives can muster for the Newman 12-M are EFs, and there are precious few of those. Clearly advanced Fugio cent enthusiasts need to carefully consider this offering for an attractive PCGS VF-35 example.
