FROM THE UNFORGETTABLE COLLECTION If you have been seeking a SUPERB example of this singular silver dollar commemorative type, if your hand is the last in the air on July 28, you can declare your search over. WOW! For sure, this is one of the better Lafayettes we have seen in some time. Ultra satiny mint luster blooms all over the smooth surfaces. We cannot stress enough the cleanliness of this coin. In fact, only a single well hidden reeding mark on the reverse is what keeps this coin from MS67. Clearly this wonderful coin sat in the original packaging, undisturbed for years, where it was able to acquire a layer of totally original rich (but NOT dark), blue-green and a halo of reddish gold coloration at the peripheries. Every detail is sharply impressed from a strong, forceful blow from the dies. The eye appeal is exceptional in every way and is one you won't forget! We certainly rank it as ultra HIGH END. There 18 graded MS66+ and just a half dozen examples graded finer at PCGS. The last CAC-approved example sold back in December 2019. More recently is a very wide range of APRs from $13,800 to $30,000 for non-CAC PCGS MS66+ pieces. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $23,000 and we sold a very similar looking MS66 CAC for $22,913 in October 2021.
