1865 Gold Dollar. MS-66 (NGC). This Civil War-era Gold Dollar is (very) low-mintage issue with a mere 3,725 business strikes produced. Attrition was high, and today the 1865 is one of the most elusive P-mint Gold Dollars of any type. Qualifying as Condition Census, this premium-quality Gem is one of the nicest survivors of the issue ever to pass through this cataloger's hands. Both sides are highly lustrous with a vibrant finish that combines satin and semi-prooflike qualities. The entire package is dressed in vivid rose-gold patina that further accents a sharply executed strike. Free of worrisome abrasions, a minor planchet flaw (as struck) from the 7 o'clock position on the obverse border should serve as a useful pedigree marker.
