With a mintage of only 5,000 a number of 1887 half dollars display Prooflike characteristics. However, precious few are so fully Prooflike that they earn the coveted PL designation at PCGS or NGC. This fabulous GEM has a brilliant cartwheel luster. The surfaces are blazing with a white intensity that combines with ultra flashy reflective fields. Copious amounts of mint frost are lavished on the keenly struck design details. Just the faintest bit of strike weakness is noted at the very top of LIberty’s head. Even with strong magnification there is nothing more than a couple of very small ticks in the fields. Adding to the allure is a touch of multicolored peripheral toning on the reverse. The eye appeal is great! PCGS 1, NGC 1. The current Collectors Universe value is listed at $5,500 and it would not be a shock if this GEM brought that. The eye appeal is simply AMAZING! Cert.
