1857-C Liberty Half Eagle. Winter Variety 1 (25-J), the only known dies. AU-58 (PCGS). A handsome-looking piece, this C-mint Five is uncommonly well struck with bold-to-sharp definition throughout. Bathed in even honey-rose color, the surfaces are free of singularly distracting abrasions with ample evidence of a semi-prooflike finish shining forth at most angles. Easily among the nicest near-Mint survivors of the issue to have passed across this cataloger's desk in recent years.
