- 1795 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-51, B-14. Rarity-2. Off-Center Bust. Good-6 (NGC).
A relatively affordable yet pleasing example of this scarce early dollar type. Well worn but there are no serious marks or flaws, the major detail is fully outlined, and the toning is a wholesome deep gray with light devices. Of the two different die combinations used for the 1795 Draped Bust dollar, the BB-51 Off-Center Bust variety featuring Liberty appearing too far to the left from the center is believed to have been the first of the new dollars coined. The total struck is not quite known; while the official mintage figure cited is 42,738 pieces, this is thought to be a portion of the overall total for the 1795 Draped Bust dollar which may be closer to 100,000 coins of both varieties. The BB-51 is the more plentiful of the two die marriages with as many as 1,400 to 2,000 coins extant in all grades.
PCGS# 6858. NGC ID: 24X2.
