- 1800 Draped Bust Silver Dollar. BB-184, B-12. Rarity-3. EF-40 (PCGS). OGH. Brilliant apart from pale gold and speckled olive-russet overtones, much luster remains on both sides of this lightly circulated early dollar. Moderately abraded surfaces are mentioned for accuracy. Scarce in an absolute sense, this die pairing has an estimated population of 250 to 400 survivors in all grades (per Q. David Bowers, The Encyclopedia of United States Silver Dollars: 1794-1804, 2013). With most examples confined to lower grades through VF, BB-184 is also a conditionally challenging variety that is rare in EF and AU. With only a single Mint State coin positively confirmed - the Cardinal Collection specimen that we (American Numismatic Rarities) brought to auction in 2005 - this Extremely Fine coin is a noteworthy find for the advanced early dollar variety enthusiast.
