- AUSTRALIA. Penny, 1917-I. Calcutta Mint. PCGS MS-63 Red Brown Gold Shield. KM-23. A coin with plenty of mint red and without marks or hairlines. The crown is a little softly struck, which may have influenced the assigned grade. In 1917, at the height of World War One, the Sydney and Perth mints struck gold while Melbourne struck gold and silver. The Calcutta mint was contracted to strike halfpence and pence.
