- An historic Civil War era date with glowing cartwheel luster. Pleasing olive and gold original toning on satin-like mint bloom. The surfaces of this large gold coin are above average for the assigned grade, and are relatively free of distracting marks, which can largely be seen only with magnification. Moderately scarce in Mint State, and especially so in choice condition, making MS62s a great grade for this date. PCGS 113, NGC 74. The Collectors Universe Price Guide lists the value as $7,250. Auction prices realized vary and generally reflect the degree of surface marks; coins with smoother surfaces bring higher prices; the most recent example sold for $7,200 in December 2019.
