- 1872 Liberty Seated Silver Dollar. Proof-64 Deep Cameo (PCGS). A rare and enticing Deep Cameo specimen from the penultimate Proof issue in the Liberty Seated dollar series. Untoned apart from subtle iridescent rim highlights, stark field to device contrast dominates the in hand appearance of this beautiful coin. Fully struck with eye appeal to spare. The 1872 is one of the more frequently encountered Proofs in the Liberty Seated dollar series, the mintage a relatively hefty 950 pieces. Even so, survivors are scarcer than the number struck might indicate, many examples likely remaining unsold and melted in the Mint after the Act of February 12, 1873 abolished the standard silver dollar. Among the survivors, few possess the stark field-to-device contrast of this awe-inspiring specimen.
