What a cool coin! During times of hardship, families' coin collections would often get spent, especially at a time when Proof gold coins did not trade for huge premiums over face value. That is likely what happened to this 1903 $5. The surfaces show minor friction and contact from its brief time in commerce, but the original mirrored Proof surface is flashy and really dances in the light. The strike is bold and the sharply defined devices really do stand out. The rich color adds to the wonderful eye appeal. PCGS 6, NGC 0, CAC 2.
