- FROM THE TRZASKA COLLECTION EX ELIASBERG COLLECTION This SUPERB GEM 1870 Proof nickel boasts one of the greatest pedigrees in all of numismatics, that of Louis Eliasberg. Described in lot 757 in the May 1996 Bowers sale as: "Proof-67. Brilliant. It is difficult to imagine that more than just a tiny number of comparable examples could exist." The reflective mirrors beam all over leaving the frosty devices standing in stark cameo contrast. The eye appeal is amazing. Prior to Eliasberg, this coin was in the Clapp Collection where it was obtained from Edouard Frossard's March 1894 auction. Just 1,000 were struck. PCGS 24, NGC 16, CAC 18. While the most recent examples have sold in the $1,100 to $1,300 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $1,500, this one last sold in March 2009 for $5,463. VERY RARE any finer, just seven have graded finer at PCGS, and keep in mind that the value in PR67 CAM is $16,000. This is a real prize for the specialist collector. Good luck. Cert.
