After the passage of the Bland-Allison Act in 1878, the focus of the mint changed to the churning out of hundreds of millions of Morgan dollars; the striking of silver minor coinage (dimes, quarters, and half dollars) shrank to low five-figure levels. Only 10,000 circulation strike half dollars were made in 1881. The presently offered GEM MS65+ is essentially fully Prooflike. Boldly and brilliantly lustrous with a strong, frosted strike. Beautiful purple, magenta, tangerine, and gold toning grace both sides, fully blanketing the obverse and framing brilliant silver centers on the reverse.
