THE BIG CYPRESS COLLECTION After a mintage of 138,618 $3 gold pieces in 1854, the mintage dropped by more than half in 1855 to 50,555. While fairly common in grades up to MS63, the 1855 is conditionally challenging in MS64 and down right RARE any finer. Highly reflective, almost Prooflike luster flashes and radiates boldly on both sides. A warm honey gold color mixes with a bright yellow-gold. A sharp strike rendered by an exacting blow from the dies. A strong glass reveals some tiny ticks, and mint made die striations and planchet roughness, none of these are distracting to the naked eye, nor do they impact the eye appeal. PCGS 28, NGC 21. The last one sold in our December 2019 Regency Auction--the market is much different today. The current PCGS Price Guide value is $10,000. There are just 10 graded higher the finest MS66. Bound for a type set or set of this challenging series. Cert. Number 39387549 PCGS # 7972
