- The Lakewood Collection. Large S. Mintage of over a million pieces belies the fact that 1865-S is no longer lumped in with the "common circulated dates" for the series, presumably due to high attrition from melting in decades past. Either side sustains a touch of luster within protected areas, and caramel-gold accents throughout the surface invoke a pleasing, vintage "old gold" appearance.
