- Obv: The same design that the Mint used to strike regular issue Indian cents, 1859 to 1860; Pointed Bust with the date low in the field. Rev: The denomination ONE CENT within an oak wreath, with a broad ornamental shield at top. Warm tan-olive patina blankets hard, satiny surfaces that reveal subtle orange-apricot undertones as the coin dips into a light. Fully struck and otherwise free of notable blemishes, a tiny obverse carbon spot close in to the border before the word UNITED serves as a useful provenance marker. Although this is a relatively obtainable Judd number, as evidenced by the Rarity-4 attribution, the Pollock-256/Snow-PT32 variety with the Pointed Bust/Low Date obverse is rated Rarity-7 in the 2014 edition of Rick Snow's Flying Eagle & Indian Cent Attribution Guide. The author positively traces only four specimens, with two additional unmatched examples; it is unclear whether or not that offered here is included in the Snow census.
