- THE BOYLSTON COLLECTION Tied for second FINEST graded! Eye popping mint bloom and blazing white luster looks like a sheet of satin accenting immaculate fields. Thick frost is apparent on needle sharp devices. Even with powerful magnification, nothing other than a couple of flea bites can be seen on the surfaces. Incoming Mint Director, Colonel James Ross Snowden, ordered that moving forward, all quarters and half dollars would be issued without rays, but would continue to show arrows at the date. This was likely to save the life of the dies and avoid the costs of additional die sinking, while still indicating the new planchet weight introduced in 1854. PCGS 4, NGC 2. Just 9 coins graded higher and all are MS-66. A sleeper date that routinely is thought of as common, but in reality is far from it, in GEM grades. PCGS Price Guide is $15,000. Believe it or not it has been 18 years since the last non cac example traded at auction, in June 2002 for $14,375. The price jumps from $15,000 to $32,500 in MS-66. For a frosty white coin of this calibre, we expect aggressive bidding and a strong price realized. Best of luck! Cert. Number 6560492 PCGS # 6281.00
