A classic early gold type! The so-called Fat Head five is a very challenging series to collect by date, chock full of rarities that routinely bring six and sometimes seven figure prices when appearing on the market. The 1813, the first year of issue happens to be the most common, with an original mintage of 95,428. The entire mintage was produced by two different die pairs, this one, BD-2 is the scarcer of the two with about 150-200 known in all grades, and listed as Rarity-4 in the Bass-Dannreuther reference. A wonderful and original looking CHOICE Mint State example. Warm, honey gold coloration is enlivened by a satiny and bold underlying luster that glows with a strong brilliance. A few minor ticks keep it from grading even higher, but this is a very CHOICE example of this very popular type. PCGS 3, NGC 2. The only MS63+ to sell was an NGC coin that sold over a decade ago. The current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $37,500 and we expect this one to bring a bid close to that. Do not let this one get away. Cert. Number 38529785 PCGS # 8116
