- This is a very pleasing, original example of the scarce BD-2 die marriage. Johann Reich's classic Capped Bust design was altered in 1813 to create the Capped Head type, lovingly referred to among collectors as the "Fat Head" Five, as Liberty's head is large and takes up most of the obverse surface. Two die pairs were used to coin the 1813, the BD-2 is a Rarity-4, making it the scarcer of the two. Honey-gold with olive-gold accents. There is nothing more than the touch of honest wear on the high points in the fields. No serious marks or lines of any kind are seen, even with the aid of a strong glass. There is an area of minor weakness on the lower portion of the eagle. The eye appeal is wonderful. PCGS 47, NGC 31, CAC 8. The most recent example brought $15,600 in March 2022 and the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $16,000. As the only "common" date in this very challenging old toner gold series, this is the PERFECT type coin, and always in demand as such. Cert. Number 45317626 PCGS # 8116
