FROM THE DR. STEPHEN DAVIDSON COLLECTION This is a truly beautiful and PREMIUM QUALITY Proof 1860 half dollar. Both sides are gorgeously toned with deep aqua-teal and azure-cobalt at the rims which meld into an apricot-rose and tangerine-gold, then to a clear gold in the absolute center. The devices are RAZOR sharp in definition, with no areas of weakness. The watery reflective fields have just a hint of light lines that are visible only under the careful inspection with a strong glass. The eye appeal is great. While the reported mintage was 1,000, a number of these were left unsold at the mint and were later melted down. PCGS 9, NGC 8. There are just four graded finer in the designation. This is the most recent example of this grade to sell in auction, over half a decade ago! the current PCGS Price Guide value is listed at $8,500. Truly worthy of a fantastic collection and will see very strong bids when it crosses the block. Fresh and worthy of a great set. PCGS Cert. Number 25231743 PCGS # 6414
